agreements, or easements, between landowners and BP Pipelines
(North America) allow us to construct and maintain pipeline
rights-of-way across privately owned property. Most pipelines
are buried below ground in a right-of-way which is generally
50 feet wide. These rights-of-way are obtained to allow
the pipeline to be safely operated and properly maintained.
BP Pipelines (North America) is legally responsible for
maintaining its right-of-way to protect the public, the
line itself, and other customers from loss of service. Pipeline
rights-of-way are located in urban, suburban, and rural
communities.
If you are not aware that a pipeline runs through your property:
- Check for pipeline markers posted nearby on your property or in your neighborhood.
- Pipeline markers include warning signs, aerial patrol markers, casing vents and painted metal, wood or plastic post.
- Check your property records at your county clerk's office
